ignition wiring (123 views) (187 thread views)
Message: This is probably a stupid question but I can't figure out what's wrong. My coil seems to get very hot with the ignition switch on. The car will start but runs terrible. I know it's not normal for the coil to heat up like it does. I have the ignition wire from the switch to the positive side of the coil. The negative side of the coil has two wires, one to the tach , the other to the points. I believe it's wired correctly and don't know what's causing this condition. Using an ohm meter with no wires on the coil, Im getting a reading of 3.1 ohms which I believe is normal. With the ignition switch on, I get a reading of 11.8 volts on the positive side of the coil but on the point side of the coil I'm getting a reading of less than 1 volt. I've checked the wire from the coil to the points for continuity and it is fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
