Request for Input - 8er Community at Large (251 views) (405 thread views)
Message: Hello 8er owners;

We could use your feedback on the Options Listing page at 8Coupe.com.

Background

During an insane moment in 2004, an idea to catalog every single 8er built was generated after working through some US-spec 8's. From that moment on, and 2.5 years of effort, the cataloging effort ended on 18-Oct-2006. Read more about the Inventory Project here:

2005 BMW 8 Series Inventory Project

Since the data gathering part of the project completed, work progressed on data presentation. One of our biggest challenges was the Option codes (e.g. code 223 is for the EDC, Electronic Dampening Control option for the 8er). Well, we were able to sort out the 8er-specific options coding. If you've been following my reports at 8Coupe.com, it has been a challenge to manage the option codes. Read these links:

3-Oct-2007 - Update on Option Code Validation - 8Coupe.com

29-April-2008 - Update - 8er Specific Option Codes - 8Coupe.com

Input Requested

Now it's time to share the data with the 8er community. Specifically, these are the areas of where we could use your input:
  • Data display
  • Sorting of the data
  • Categorizing the data
At this time we've got a placeholder for some ideas on how to display the data here:

8Coupe.com - 8er Specific Options

Here are some suggestions received so far:
  • Display and present the data using the same method as Exterior/Interior colors. This would include pertinent data, a picture of the option (where available), and some detailed explanation.
  • Keep it simple and just display the data in small tables (like the placeholder link above).
  • Some mix of the previous two ideas.
You can contact me directly via link below or you post in this thread with your ideas.

FYI: Option Code 260 Flat Tire Warning System

BTW, the option code 260 FLAT TIRE WARNING SYSTEM, was indeed suppose to be widely offered option on the 8 Series. In fact, if you have the early marketing materials from 1989-91, BMW AG promised to have this feature available in the 8er sometime after introduction. Only 11 cars eventually got this option and it was soon dropped because of technical issues.

Thank you in advance for your input.

Jud
