| Message: | Hi all, A couple months ago, posted a question about if anybody had ever dealt with creaking front brakes, only when the brake is applied. A few suggested removing the guide pins (again, as I had just done it not too long ago), also possibly putting a thin film of lithium grease on them when replacing, and also putting a thin film of lithium grease around the back of the pads where they make contact with the calipers. Well, I did both of those above, and I even went so far as to put Lithium grease on the backside rungs of the pad that compress down into the caliper cylinder. I was desperate to get rid of that dang creak. Don't know which one solved it, but I can't hear a thing know when applying the brakes, whether on a slow roll and/or a fast stop. I am just worried about the "grease on the guide bolts" thing, as I swear I remember reading either here on this board or in the TIS to just clean them thoroughly and do not grease them. Will that grease I put on there starting attracting grime and particles that will eventually etch those guide pins and render them useless? You know, now that I think about it, I remember someone here also saying it was a good idea to replace the guide bolt bushings (I think they sell a bushing replacement kit, don't they?) , and I didn't do that. The bushings on 96' 528i are still the originals that came out of the factory (the car has 101,000 miles on it). Anybody else changed their guide bolt bushings?? Is it fairly easy and straight forward (looks so from the RealOEM pics)? Eurodavid | ||||
