| Message: | I have some time here next week, and I can easily pop the front wheels off again and remove that white lithium grease that I put on the guide pins. The calipers seem to work really well, so I don't want to screw them up (like you say, Panos) as I didn't realize that I'd screw the calipers up and not the guide pins by doing what I did yesterday. Ooops :0 My question now is this: the current guide pins appear smooth, but when I did examine them under an old magnifying glass I had lying around, you can see small grooves from the years of sliding back and forth. Those grooves is where you could see the black rubber of the bushings build up, and then they appear to try to join themselves in concentric circles completely around the guide pin..yet the pins still feel smooth to the finger touch despite the buildup. Do you both think it is worth it, as preventive medicine, to just replace old guide pin bolts too when I also replace the rubber bushings (thanks, Jim, for pointers on how to get those off). Or is it expected to see some wear like I am describing on these current guide pins and thus it is perfectly normal? Thanks for any replies! Eurodavid | ||||
