Over the summer I've developed a rattle/vibration that sounds like it might be coming from the rear. It only happens under acceleration, and has progressively got worse. I first heard it under hard acceleration, but now over time it occurs under normal acceleration. The best way i know how to describe the noise is it sounds like going over a rumble strip or like the gears are going out and are starting to skip. So naturally I took it to my mech. right after I heard it the first time. He checked the transmission, differential, rear axles (replaced one of them), and the frame, and everything checked out fine. Now my mech. isn't a licensed BMW mech. and I understand that in itself is probably my first problem, but I trust him, and he knows how to spot the obvious (although now this might be out of his league). Has anyone has this rattle happen to them? I had a friend suggest that maybe something with the rear strut is bad, does that sounds reasonable? Please Help!
