Message: I had a tire go on a trip recently. Took all the stuff out of the trunk and piled it behind the seats (top up). Put the blown tire in the trunk and tied the trunk down with some rope from the side of the road. About fifty miles later the spare blew out. Bad valve (the car is a '98). A wrecker came out and replaced the valve ($80 and three hours later). My advice to all with older z3: get that valve replaced before you need to depend on it.
