Your aluminum drive shaft could reduce weight, but the rotational inertia improvement(polar moment of inertia) would be very small, as the diameter of the drive shaft is very small compared to other roatating components (crankshaft, flywheel, clutch). Even the crankshaft pully & vibration damper probably has an equal or larger polar moment than the driveshaft.
If you want to reduce the rotational inertia go with a lightweight flywheel/clutch for the most effect.

: Anyone know where I can get an Aluminum drive shaft for a 97 2.8L Z3. This would reduce Vehicle weight a little and reduce acceleration loss to inertia in the drive shaft mass. If it isn’t available maybe one could be fabricated.
