: : : Hello, Being in Australia, I don't know what the standard specs are for Z3's in the States. There have been lots of complaints about the sound system quality in Z3's here, but what sound system are the complaints levelled at? ie. does the optional (in Australia) Harman Kardon system still sound as bad?

: : : I'm considering a Z3 purchase for later in the year, so I'm wanting to know if the extra $$$ for the HK system is worth it. I'm not big on third party post-purchase mods.

: : : Kwan.

: I have HK upgrade in 1998 Z3 2.8 and after rectifying a buzzing sound from the subwoofer, I'd have to say it sound pretty good unless you intent to wake the neighbours with really high sound levels. The staging and clearity is very fine considering that this is a convertible. I've heard other stereos in competing cars and all things considered(packaging, etc), This is well-spent funds. The stock sound system is not as good and aftermarket installation can be a nightmare.
