It is a royal PITA when you use the car for short trips. I drive two miles from my house to my office. I make better time when I skip the detector install and drive the speed limit. I only use my detector for long trips.

I also don't like the fact that it is visibly obvious. I don't think cops issue many warnings to drivers who use radar detectors. I'd rather be quiet about it.
