I found this earlier post in the archives.

A new and incredibly easy fix for the notorious Harmon-Kardon subwoofer buzz and rattle:

I created what is nothing more than a "shim". Start with a matched set of Velcro strips (i.e. one "hook" side and one "loop" side). Available just about everywhere, I purchased a black-colored set of adhesive-backed generic Velcro. Dimensions are approximately 4.50" x 0.75". Peel-off the backing to expose the adhesive on both strips. Carefully align the strips together -- adhesive side to adhesive side. The finished product is a single two-sided strip with a "loop" side and a "hook" side. Now, pop-off the subwoofer speaker screen (gently and simultaneously pull from the lower sides first). Note the location where the lower-back edge of the black rubber tuned-port snorkel rests on the carpeted backing. Firmly tug outward to remove the snorkel. Place the "hook" side of the strip against the carpeted backing aligned such that the entire end of the snorkel will rest on the Velcro "shim". Firmly reinsert the snorkel and gently press on the screen.

You're done! Crank-up the tunes and enjoy! The effect of this fix is to firmly place the exposed front edge of the soft and compressible snorkel in contact with the speaker grill. The "hook" side keeps the "shim" securely in place. As there are manufacturing differences from vehicle to vehicle, one can always add something between the matched strips to "thicken" the shim. If necessary, you can even affix another "shim" between the grill and the snorkel.

This is a 5-minute solution that works! Let me know what you think.

: Hello, Being in Australia, I don't know what the standard specs are for Z3's in the States. There have been lots of complaints about the sound system quality in Z3's here, but what sound system are the complaints levelled at? ie. does the optional (in Australia) Harman Kardon system still sound as bad?

: I'm considering a Z3 purchase for later in the year, so I'm wanting to know if the extra $$$ for the HK system is worth it. I'm not big on third party post-purchase mods.

: Kwan.
