Same thing with 17 year old son, and SWMBO.. He *chose* not to put on his seatbelt as he undoubtably has done whenever he got in the car.
Ever since I was about 17 I've been religous about wearing my seatbelt, except for a handful of times when I've been distracted or I was pulling the car up to my front door (all of maybe 50 feet).
I usually catch myself shortly after starting out.
Anyway, it does happen. Don't call it woeful disregard oe a "devil may care" attidtude. You weren't there. You don't know.
