Michael,
"springs for the same models depending on how many options the vehicle has and its final weight?"
Yup. The way I can see the different spring combinations is to play with the BMW electronic parts catalog (EPC) and use the spring charts for whatever vehicle. Then you select the various options (stick/auto, passenger airbag?, roll-hoops?, power top?, sport seats?, head lamp cleaning?, AC, CD changer (not dealer installed), Harmon Kardon?, uprated speakers?, M-Sport option) and then it spits out the part numbers for that combo.
"How do you find out what options determine whether you have the stiffer springs?"
It isn't just one or the other set of springs in the car. Depending upon the options (say power roof) just the rear springs may jump up a part number. Or for something like the auto both jump up so much. Or auto and the power roof the rear jumps more then the front. There are quite a few combos for each car depending upon which options it has.
" (Will you get better handling by getting more options?) :) "
Doubtful, you need the stiffer springs to handle the increased weight. Lighter is usually better.
I'm trying to get stiffer springs in my car to somewhat increase roll resistance.
